My name is Viki Mátrai and I live with my peis in Budapest!
I was getting getting acquainted with shar-pei dogs since 1992. That was the time, when me and my brothers got our first dog, a black male shar-pei, registered by the name Csinpei Axel, but we just called him Kán!!! We loved him a lot, but sadly lost him due to an unlucky accident after 2 and a half years. It was hard to get over, and we didn't have another dog for a while as well, but in 1996 we bought Guru from the Telegland kennel. He was a beautiful black male shar-pei as well, and stayed with us for 6 years. I let both of the dogs trained, we made every kind of obedience examination. they were very apprehensive, easily teachable dogs, but as other dogs in their breed, often unbending also. Still, it is the part of their character.
Unfortunately in 2004 Guru's condition began to fall more and more, we took him to the veterinarian more often, payed a lot of money, but they couldn't be helped. Pictures were made about him, samples were taken, and finally the veterinarian said, that he had kidney amiloidosis, which is incurable for most of our dispair. After all these time spending with this kind of dogs and getting known their diseases better, I am not sure anymore about Guru's disease being amiloidosis: he was not dissected, so the diagnosis cannot be fixed, but there was a problem with his kidney, which is sure. We had to let him go at the end, because we didn't want him to suffer too much.
After Guru I promised to myself never to have shar-pei dog anymore, but if someone had a dog like this once, he knows that you become dependent, and cannot resist. So I have my dog now, Shira. Her name is Sarkadi Sharpi Helga, she is from Sarkad. She is a red female dog, having blue and red parents.
In 2006 I spent a lot of time in a Hungarian kennel, where I learnt a lot of new things about the dogs and their breeding. Than I bought my second dog specially for my breeding programme her name is Retek, she is an apricot dilute wonderful girl. I plan to buy some more dogs and I would like to keep some dogs of my breeding.
I would like to belong to those, whose goal is to achieve health and quality. I hope I can realize it, as far as I am able.
